Children need hope, they need REWA
Children need hope, they need REWA

Part 2: Farewell trip Barbara Forst

After the trek, we finally visited the therapy center in Leh, where we were warmly welcomed. Heike Holz and her practice team, as well as parents, had also donated a Vario chair for the therapists there, which was immediately assembled and examined with interest. In addition, the revised teaching folder, a large private cash donation and welcome nourishment in the form of jelly babies were handed over.

A long exchange followed about the past year, the first year of their independence from Ladakh-Hilfe. It was not always easy. They have grown together as a team over the year and have managed to find local sponsors.

They proudly presented us with the completion of their rooms. The school class has moved into a larger room. A library is to be set up in the old room. The speech therapist has also been given her own room.

The first stores on the first floor facing the street have also been completed. By renting them out, you will secure a small regular income. Further stores are to be added in the next construction phase.

We visited the therapy center on the first day after it opened. Leh had opened a week later due to the weather conditions. There were therefore only a few children there. The children are well looked after therapeutically. A friendly young physiotherapist from Kargil has joined the team.

Of course, with our experience, we couldn't help but get involved and make a few suggestions to the team. As a result, the new variostuhl was used successfully.

The school has also managed to establish a cooperation with Ladakh University. Three social education students now come from there three times a week to support the school's work.

We said goodbye to the children with a cheerful children's party with fun games, singing and dancing.

And it was also time to say goodbye to the adults, in a relaxed atmosphere over dinner and on our last day at the center.

I find it difficult to put my feelings into words. Farewell after 12 years. Above all, I feel gratitude. Gratitude that I was allowed and able to do this work. Thank you, you wonderful people in Kargil and Leh. Thank you for placing your trust in me, which was the basis of our intensive collaboration. We have grown together, laughed so much together and experienced and developed so much. You have grown very close to my heart. Stay the way you are and never give up! I will miss you. Barbara
