Journey & Stay:
My third journey from Mysore to Kolkata on 24th May was smooth, with no issues during travel. I had pre-booked the same PG accommodation before leaving Bangalore for Kolkata.
Personal Contact Programming – PCP-3 Schedule:
During the 3rd PCP, we were assigned several practical tasks.
Practical Work:
Our course coordinator instructed us to prepare a 60th lesson plan and Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs) for the following topics:
• Intellectual Disabilities
• Hearing Impairment
• Inclusive School
• Universal Design for Learning
• Micro Teaching
• Individualised Educational Programs (IEP) for Primary and Pre-Primary children
For the IEP, which I began during the first PCP, I faced some challenges. Unfortunately, my pre-primary students were hospitalised, and for the primary student, her mother doesn’t understand either Hindi or English. So, with special permission from our coordinator, I was allowed to carry out the IEP in Ladakh
For my IEP practical, I will be working at the Munsil Society in Leh, Ladakh. I emailed the President of the Munsil Society, and they permitted me to conduct my IEP work there.
I will be preparing:
• A Case Study
• An Individualised Educational Program (IEP)
• A Functional Assessment Checklist for Programming (FACP)
This work will be for a Primary 1 and a Pre-Primary (PP) student at Munsil Society. I’m focusing on five developmental domains and working on Task Analysis. Both short-term and long-term goals have been set for their development.
Functional Assessment Checklist for Programming (FACP):
Focusing on the following five domains for one Pre-Primary girl:
1. Personal Domain (PD):
Goal – To improve the child’s ability to hold and drink water from a glass independently.
2. Social Domain (SD):
Goal – To improve the child’s ability to greet teachers and elders at school and home.
3. Academic Domain (AD):
Goal – To improve the child’s ability to hold a pencil and scribble.
4. Occupational Domain (OD):
Goal – To improve the child’s ability to dust furniture in class and at home using a duster.
5. Recreational Domain (RD):
Goal – To improve the child’s ability to play with a ball.
Inclusive School Teaching Practice:
For my inclusive school teaching practice, I will be going to a Government school in Leh, Ladakh, teaching students from the 5th to 8th standard. I need to prepare:
• Lesson Plans
• Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs)
• Worksheets for each student
This will be my first experience teaching in a mainstream classroom in Ladakh.
Learning Experience
This third PCP has kept me fully engaged with practical assignments. I genuinely learned how to prepare TLMs and lesson plans for different types of learners. It was my first experience creating a lesson plan from scratch and teaching special children.
I also learned how to manage various situations on the spot and how to teach based on each child’s ability, using appropriate TLMs.
Before starting any teaching session, it is essential to build rapport with the students and to arrange the classroom seating in a U-shape, which helps maintain student engagement and focus.
