The Leh team had a construction erected that will help catch the warmth of the sun and radiate it into the walls of the building. This will raise the temperature of the rooms.

They use passive solar heat for heating, very good idea.

No, they will not grow vegetables in this "greenhouse", it for the sole purpose of catching the abundance of the sunrays and bundling them underneath the plastic.
