Fieldtrip to Thangtse/Changtang

May 3-5th, 2008

Report by Chuskit Yangdol

We started from Leh on 3.5.2008 at 9.30 am with Dolma from Nirlac and Nahida, special educator from education department, to Thangtse with Ladakh Hilfe. Nirlac organized food and rest house for us during the trip. We arrived there at 1.30 pm, and then we directly went to visit the monk Konchok Tarchin in Shayok. He is doing very well with the exercise which we showed him before. Now we showed some other exercise to him. He is happy to see us again.
We are going to talk about him with the head lama of the Phayang gompa if it is possible to take him to the gompa. There we may visit him more often since it is closer to Leh and he will get more therapy then back in Tangtse.

Next day Nahida went back to Leh because she got sick. Then we went to Marak village, which is 60 kilometer's from Tangtse. We visit our patient Stanzin Dolma. She is 14years old having C.P. and she does not speak but she understands us. First we did exercise with her, then showed to her mother what to do since she is taking care of her.

Then we visited Stanzin Lamo. She is 13years old and she can do every thing on her own.
Going to school in 4th grade she has much pain, when she moves around, especially in her wrists. We gave her father money to buy the much needed medicine she has to take all the time.
Next day we visit Stanzin Shakya with C.P. He needs help with every thing, but his family is taking good care of him. We did exercise with him and instructed his father and sister.
Kesang Dolma, suffering from a hemiplegia on her right side, was next. I am sad to write about her. Because she is really in very bad condition, she can't stretch her leg's, can't sleep in the right position. We can't do any thing with her, in these days she is not talking with us, she did not recognize us. She also needs medicine and we will try to get her some.

Tashi Namgial belongs to a very poor family. He also did not get his medicine lately for lack of money. His condition has gotten worse, since only the medication controls his athetosis. We told his mother to please come to Leh with him. Then we go to a doctor together and check him again.

Rigzin Yangdol she has scoliosis right convex (BWS) she is in 4th class and she lives in school Hostel. She is doing good therapy. We did exercise together and also
showed it to her teacher. She is playing volley ball, is running and she can do every thing on her own. During our visit all patients from Tangtse Block receive as a present warm winter jackets from Jule's grand parents, who donated some money for this purpose. They all are very happy to get the presents.
