Fieldtrip to Tangtse in March 2009

Participants: Tundup, Chuskit, Simone


On 12th of March we have moving towards Tangtse from Leh at 8:30 am, Tangtse is about 118km from Leh. To reach Tangtse we also have to pass CHANGLA PASS. Changla pass is the second highest motor able road in the world which is the Alt. of 17,800 feet. After passing Changla we then reached to Tangtse and we directly visited our patients.
First patient is S. S. with C.P since birth; he is 13 yrs old his mother and sister are doing all exercises with him.

Second patient is K. D. with Hemiplegia right side. She is 62 yrs old and she is sitting in the position of lotus sit all the time. We talk about everything with her husband, he showed us the exercises. We brought her some painting and Mandala.


Third patient is T. N. with Ataxia and Athetosis. He is 33yrs old. We taught him some new exercises: hip bridging for the hip and the lower back, Then he started to walk along the wall for support. This way he can straighten up his back.

Forth patient is R.Y. with scoliosis right convex. She is 16yrs old. We met her at school hostel and she showed us exercises which we taught her in our previous trip. She was saying that she is doing those exercises at hostel every day. We taught her some new exercises, then we came back to Tangtse
Second day we went to Maan village which is about 60 k/m from Tangtse. On the way we also got opportunity to watch the beautiful Pangong laka and because of the winter season the lake was totally frozen. It was looking very beautiful.

After passing the Pangong lake we arrived at Maan village.
First we visited a patient with the name S.P. with C.P. She is 14 yrs old. We met her at home; she was sitting in the sun and was looking very happy to see us. We passively exercised leg, arm and hip. We give her a soft ball and shaking box, she had fun to make a noise. Then we tried standing position, but because of the contracture of the knees it was impossible and painful, especially the left knee.

Second patient is S.L., Diagnose arthritis. She is 13yrs old. We met her at school and she told us that everything is all right and she is doing her exercises regularly. We taught her new exercises and also showed some graphomotorics for her wrist for writing. We have also given some pencils to S.L. After visiting these patients we came back to Tangtse.

On the third day, we have been to Shayok village to see the monk name Konchock Tarchin. He had a motorcycle accident in the year 2001 and he doing his exercises regularly. He told us that he is feeling better then before, he is more stable then last time. We give him crutches to help him with -walking. We taught him new exercises.

Name K.D., he is mentally retarded. He is 25yrs old, he can't speak. We told his mother to teach him some easy things which he is can do like taking food, washing hands and putting off his own clothes etc. and his mother was saying that she will teach him. After visiting him, we directly came back to Leh.
