On March 17th this year, early morning Rewa Disability team went for the Nubra valley (almost 110 km from Leh) field trip with 3 Physical Therapist (Christoph and Jule- volunteers from Germany and Chokla- a local Physical Therapist) and 2 Physio aid (Norboo and Bilkis), the team has to assess and treat patients in 5 different villages of Nubra valley, where each villages are quite far from each other so they had to plan a 3 day field trip. They reached Chamshen village on the same day, first place where they had 1 patient to treat, the patient namely- Tsering Dorjay (suffering from Paraplegia due to traumatic spine injury).

Our Team

The second village was Yulkham village where they had 1 patient to treat namely - Thundup Gyaltson (suffering from Cerebral Palsy), from Yulkham the team went to Sumur village where they had lunch and then went to the house in the same village to treat the patient namely - Tsering Dorjay (traumatic spine injury) after treating that patient the team left for Diskit (their stay point in Nubra valley) to spent the night.

Motivated Tsering Dorjey

Next morning they left for Bokdang village where the team split into 2 groups so they can simultaneously treat 2 patients, team A (Jule, Norboo and Bilkis) treated a patient namely - Shabir Ali (with a foot deformity), and team B (Christoph and Chokla) treated a patient namely - Mohammad (suffering from Hemiplegia).
In Bokdang village the team got to know about a family with 2 disabled children, so they went to that house to assess and treat them both, when the team entered to that house to introduce themselves, on acceptance of the children mother, physical therapist (Christoph, Jule and Chokla) started to assess the children but few seconds later 13 to 15 women came into that house just to see what they were doing and they wont let the children's mother answer when she was asked question regarding the children, the team tried hard enough to let them out so they get enough space and proper environment to asses the children but failed. Some how they were able to assess the Children, they tried but the environment was so hasty they could not help but just return with a hope that next time they will surely be able to do the proper treatment and assessment of the children.

Making of a soft splint - Norbu is very good at it

The next was village Hunder where they had 1 patient namely - Stanzin (suffering from an undiagnosed disease, as they never went to any hospital where they could get the proper medical assessment) though the team did asked them before to go to a hospital but in vain, the team did whatever they thought be good for the patient apart from treatment, from there the team went back to Diskit village where they had 1 last patient namely - Tsering Angmo (with knock knee). The team then spent the night to leave back for Leh next morning, but unfortunately they could not due to snowfall so they had to spend another day there and at last they could return to Leh the next day.
