Report
of the Camp in Tangtse-Block by Chuskit Yangdol
Tangtse is a cold area in Ladakh which is 160 kilometers from Leh.
We started from Leh to Tangtse at 1:30 pm on 25th of September 2007.
On the way we had lunch at Karu village. Then we crossed the Changla
pass. We all felt very cold because the mountains were fully covered
by snow.
Around 5:30 pm we reached Tangtse. There it was also very cold because
the valley is surrounded by high mountains.
First we met the Block Medical Officer (B.M.O.) Dr. Nurzin. Afterwards
we went to the governmental rest house where we stayed.

the physiotherapists. Then we introduced ourselves. After that all
the participants introduced themselves. Then we started the session:
"Philosophy about Rehabilitation/Disability"
1. What is the difference of the development of a normal and a disabled
child?
2. How can help be provided? We asked them many questions about
disability to find out what they know about it.
3. Matthias, Susann, Chuskit and two health workers did homevisits
in Satho village which is 30 kilometers from Tangtse block. We saw
the patient named Stangzin (m) having cerebral palsy.
On the way back we went to Bilasalsal village where we treated a
woman who is paralyzed left side after having had a stroke. We also
showed some exercises to the family members.
Nicole, Tundup and one health worker went to Shayok and Durbuk village
to treat two patients there.

one health worker went to Maan village which is 75 kilometers from
Tangtse block to do homevisits there.
On the way we saw the Pangong Lake which is 75% inside the chinese
border. We were very excited when we saw the lake and could not
express our feelings.
On the way back we also checked the patients in Marak village. We
showed them and the health worker some exercises because after the
camp the health worker has to continue the exercises with those
patients.

Experience
I got the impression that the health workers really want to do something
for the disabled people in their villages.
All the health workers were very interested in this camp because
before they did not know how to help the disabled people.
After the camp they know how to handle and how to help these patients.
I hope the health workers will visit the families once a week for
therapy.
This camp was also very interesting for me because I learned many
things from the therapists and enjoyed the trip with them.
