Its was so nice to visit there in Shayok village. Shayok is in Changthang
at Durbuk block. It is very small and beautiful valley where only twenty-two
families live in that village. When we arrived there we met one health worker,
who works there in the hospital and from that lady we came to know about
our patient named KONCHOK THARCHIN and his family.
Firstly we introduced ourselves, and then we had a lunch together with a
nice hospitality.
After some time we started our work to write a report on Konchok Tharchin.
He was a monk five years before.
In 2001 he
had an accident with a scooter, after the accident the family took him to
the Leh Hospital and then suddenly on next day over to Delhi. They stayed
in Delhi for about fifteen days .The parents told me that they were in Delhi
for a second time in 2004 for the treatment of Tharchin. So from last two
years he is in Shayok staying with his wonderful family.
The doctor suggests him to do some therapy, so our organization Ladakh-Hilfe
knows him since last year (2005). Tharchin told me that he feels much better
than last year and I was so happy to see him in doing lots of exercise that
he learned last year. As from the accident he got injured in left side of
the brain, so the weaker side is right one. He can't speak fluently and
he can't go to toilet by himself as his mother always carrying him. On that
evening we tried to teach him some speech exercises like how to spell ABCDEFGHIJ
etc. In the night we also play a game along with Tharchin and his family
with the sound of: Head, shoulder, knee and feet etc. I learned a lots of
things from this patient, that how he suffers from this disability especially
his family. So on the next day we taught him how to stretch the muscles.
In the evening we met a punch (head) of the shayok village, he has a lots of respect towards 'Tharchin' even he is no more a monk now. The punch told me about the past life of 'Tharchin ' and it was such a painful story. He said that it would be so kind full if he can get admit in Mahabodhi center to stay there for the whole winter, so that we can give him the treatment ones a week. We are also agreeing on that man and we told them that we try our best as we can't say for sure.
As the time has pass, I and Niki had a great time in Shayok village.
On 27th of August we leave to 'Satu' village where we need to stay one more night for our patient name 'Shakya'.He has a very bad hygienic problem and also breathing problem .So I did some breathing exercise with him and I also did some massage on his whole body.
On the way to this village we had nice view of 'PANGONG' lake where
we had a pack lunch; we were in Leh on 28th of August and on the way back
to Leh we also enjoyed the snow fall.
So it was a great experience and nice trip for me that I ever had in my
whole life. I am so thankful to you all to gave me such a great opportunity
