World Disability Day in Ladakh, December 3rd, 2007

"We shall overcome, we shall overcome, we shall overcome some day
Oh deep in my heart I do believe, that we shall overcome some day! "

Accompanied by the sound of bright children's voices we moved throughout the streets of Leh, Ladakh on Dec. 3rd to arouse attention for the cause of the disabled. The children from the Chuchot Hostel had created many posters proclaiming the rights of the Disabled and the need for public support.
This demonstration was unusual for us Germans: The children walked in very orderly rows one behind each other. We really got the attention of the many people walking the streets. Our groups aim was to reach the Auditorium Hall to participate in a program lasting two hours, consisting of speeches, dances, music and the showing of special movies.
We would have loved to participate on stage, but we were informed too late about the event, as usual.
After all this day was a very important step to arouse public awareness for the plight of the disabled and for equal rights.
